Pupil on way to school crushed to death as masquerade chases him onto path of moving vehicle

A 14-year-old boy on his way to school was tragically crushed to death by a speeding vehicle while being pursued for a laugh by a masquerade at Ogbaku, Imo State.
THE AFRICAN EYE gathered that the pupil took to his heels upon sighting a scary bunch of traditional dancers also locally known as 'okorosha' but one of the masquerades apparently in an attempt to milk the fun, allegedly engaged the frightened boy in a chase untill he unfortunately ran onto the path of a vehicle on the Onitsha-Owerri Road.
According to eyewitness accounts, after the accident occurred, the culprit masquerade smartly rejoined the other masquerades, leaving the boy in a pool of blood.
An eyewitness, Mr. Linus Iwuji who spoke to the Punch blamed the community leaders for allowing the masquerades to roam freely on busy roads rather than restricting them to the village square.
“I blame the community leaders for allowing the masqueraders to walk about chasing people. They and their guides even rob and rape women at late hours,” Iwuji said.
Confirming the incident, Imo State Police PRO, Andrew Enwerem said that the police were investigating the incident.
